![]() This ensured there are no mix ups when hitching up to hit the road. ![]() Red can only connect to Red and Grey to Grey. The different colours are also designed in a way so they can not connect into a different colour. To ensure the two plugs are not mixed up with one another, we will usually install two different coloured Anderson Plugs. ![]() If you intend to head a bit off the beaten track, we would definitely suggest installing an Anderson plug for your ESC. Anderson plugs are usually are a bit more secure than your standard trailer plug, so we recommended them when a stronger connection is required. In some cases we also install an Anderson Plug for connecting the Electronic Stability Control (ESC). In the worst cases, trying to run a battery charge feed through your 12 pin plug can lead to pins melting together, destroying the plug and socket in the process. The round pin style connectors are typically used on heavy-duty trucks which are wired differently from typical RV or equipment style trailers. A 12 pin plug can only take up to 6mm wire, which is not suitable for a charge current. All diagrams are as viewed from the Cable. So the tow hitch option should come with a 7 pin tow plug connector, not a 4 pin. The 7 pin flat plug will fit into a 12 pin flat socket and work perfectly, and vice versa. The window sticker also doesnt define what the trailer package pre-wire consists of, but the updated Hyundai website says a 2021 Palisade comes standard with a 7 pin tow plug pre-wire. The reason for this is that your 12 pin is not designed to handle a charge feed. It just said Tow hitch no definition of tow plug connector. If you are wanting to run a charge feed through to your caravan batteries, we will always recommend installing an Anderson Plug on your towbar for this purpose. Red Anderson plug: Direct 12v supply suit ESC Operations.Grey Anderson plug: Isolated Charge feed from vehicle start battery. It is usually used for towing heavy-duty cargo trailers, aluminum trailers, dump trailers, utility / landscape trailers, equipment trailers, open car haulers and enclosed car haulers. If not I'll figure it out myself and post how I did it.In most cases we will also install an Anderson plug or two depending on the vehicle and caravan. The 7-Way Trailer Plug is around 2 diameter connector that allows an additional pin for an auxiliary 12-volt power or backup lights. If anyone has done this before I'd love some info. I could just find those 4 wires and tap into them but I'd like to make my trailer wiring completely independent from the existing factory wiring. Left, right, running, and reverse are the wires that I have yet to figure out how to tap in to. There is also a 30 amp fuse labeled "towing tail". ![]() It has a space for a relay and it already has a 30 amp fuse so I may be able to tap into that. There is a empty spot in there labeled 30 amp towing. 9 10 On older trailers theres sometimes a 5-wire setup using a 7-pin connector. Ground can just goto a ground in the engine compartment.įor the auxiliary wire I can put a relay connected to the ignition and tap into either the batter directly or look for something in the engine electrical panel. The 7-pin connector uses on newer trailers all 7 pins according to the ISO standard. The one for the brakes is the easiest, it will go to the brake controller. Now I have to figure out where to tap in the 7 wires. I ran a 7 wire trailer cable from my rear bumper to the engine compartment. If others are interested in doing this on their truck I will make this a how to once I have mine done. From what I understand even if you have the factory tow package it does not have all 7 wires for the 7 pin hookup. This is going to be a completely custom install. The main function of that circuit would be for lighter-duty applications, such as providing power for interior trailer lights or to maintain a trailer mounted battery. I am going to install the wiring for a 7 pin hitch on my non tow package 5 lugger. The wiring that feeds the 12-volt accessory circuit on the 7-way trailer connector is of insufficient gauge to allow enough power to pass through to run a trailer mounted winch.
